Golden in the Will?
posted in In the NewsSo you’ve probably read that Oprah set up a $30 million trust fund for her four beloved pouches, two of which are Golden Retrievers. There’s nothing wrong with her wanting the best to continue for her animals should she pass on before they do. There are probably more people not on record who feel the same way about their animals. It seems that we are giving our dogs the golden treatment these days. From pampering days at the spa to lavish treats from the bakery, dogs these days have it made. And maybe it’s because more and more people are starting families younger and they have a dog before children. You know, they say, if you can raise a puppy it’s a good lesson on raising a child. In many ways they are the same, and there are a lot of people who choose to have dogs and not children.
With all the special treatment we give our dogs these days, you have to ask yourself. Should I include my pets in my will? Well you would surely want them to continue to have a good life and be able to live in a loving home. Right? Sure you would! When four legged famly members is all you have, of course you would want the best for them. Whether you call them your kids, babies or family pet, they are just that, part of the family. Most people would agree their home is not complete without a dog. And the Golden Retriever is in luck since they are ranked amongst the top 5 breeds as family pets in America.
When you’re writing down that list of people to remember after you are gone, don’t forget to mention the pets. After-all, just by owning a pet, you may live a few years longer than someone who doesn’t because it’s been proven that dogs make us happier and healthier beings.
Families come in all shapes, sizes and species too!
