Vicky writes… I love dogs, but we lost our last dog in Sept 2006 and I just didn’t want another dog so soon. However, my daughter’s boyfriend had other plans. He knew how devastated she was when we lost our beagle, and he wanted to get her a dog. He kept telling her to “ask your mom first”. I kept putting her off, never giving her a definite answer. She told her boyfriend that I didn’t say yes and I didn’t say no She was at her dad’s for the weekend, when her boyfriend showed up, and said “let’s go get you a dog”. So off they all went, and Rocket was my daughter’s dog since Valentine’s Day. I was rather upset at first. But I came to accept it, and I eventually fell in love with him so much, that I adopted Lucy in June 2007 when my friend’s dog had puppies. Lucy has a serious health issue, liver disease as diagnosed by her vet. I am told the only thing that will help her is a liver transplant, which is not an option, as there are no guarantees. The vet said he doesn’t know of anyone who would do it anyway. So, I will grieve like I would if I lost a child, then I will have to get another dog, and yes it will be a golden.

This is a follow to the story about my dog, Lucy, who was diagnosed with liver disease in September 2007. Lucy had many good days, and a few not-so-good days. On Tuesday, June 24, 2008 I noticed something wasn’g quite right with her. I took her to the vet, and he didn’t see any out of the ordinary, said maybe she was just having another off day. I was to take her back the next day and if she was no better, he was going to do a blood scan. She was no better the next morning, so I had my daughter come to the house when I went to work so Lucy wasn’t alone. Later in the morning, Sam called me to say Lucy’s face and neck were starting to look bloated. I called the vet back and he said at that point, it’s considered “late stage” and there was nothing more to do as she was starting to suffer. As hard as it was, we took Lucy in that evening, June 25, 2008, to have her put down. Naturally, I am hearbroken and cried for days. I have another golden, Tucker, who is 4 months old today. He loved Lucy, and when we came home without her, he went from room to room looking for her and crying. My poor baby boy! Lucy will never be forgotten, but Tucker now has my undivided attention as he is the only dog I have. He will, no doubt, be spoiled by the end of the week.

Sorry to hear about Lucy. I had to ‘put to sleep’ Mesha, our cockapoo that had been in our family for over 9 years.
Holding him in my lap as he went to sleep was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to done.
A few months later, Max, a golden retriever joined our family. Max will never replace Mesha, but it’s hard to be sad with a Golden around.
As Max would say “Keep Wagging!”
