Mixed amongst a room full of dogs, just about anyone could pick out the Golden Retriever. When you start a converstation about dogs you will learn that at some point in their life many people will have owned, known someone who owned or mentioned wanting to own a Golden Retriever. For quite sometime they have been a staple of the “All American Family Dog”. Most everyone finds that Golden Retrievers are great family pets. They are know to be great with children and are wonderful companions.

The American Kennel Club, AKC, defines the standard Golden Retriever as “a symmetrical, powerful, active dog, sound and well put together, not clumsy nor long in the leg, displaying a kindly expression and possessing a personality that is eager, alert and self-confident. Primarily a hunting dog, he should be shown in hard working condition.”

But like many people in this world, Golden Retrievers come in all shapes, sizes and colors, too! There are stocky builds, petite builds, lanky builds, blondes, red heads, pink noses, black noises, bushy tails, flowing hair, short hair and many other descriptors that make each Golden Retriever different from the next. Regardless of what physical characteristics, the Golden Retriever is still one of the most recognized dogs in America and among the top five dogs to own as a family pet.

Why are Golden Retrievers so popular you ask? Well, maybe it’s that they are friendly, reliable, and trustworthy. Or could it be their devotion to their owners. Golden Retrievers are always eager to please and love to be with you. By be with you, it’s not just that they enjoy being a part of your life, they like being one with your shadow. If you have a Golden Retriever, you’ll have a special bond with a 24/7 buddy. Where ever you go, he’ll be there with you.
