Every year there are numerous Golden Retrievers that end up in shelters. Whether it’s because their owner couldn’t care for them anymore or they just didn’t want them anymore, they still need loving homes. Below is a listing of rescue organizations throughout the United States of America. Don’t see your local rescue in the list, please submit the information to us so we may add them in because every Golden deserves a loving home.

There are several benefits to adopting a rescue Golden. Often times, these dogs have spent time in a family environment so most have learned the basics of house manners. Now, that doesn’t mean your rescue dog is fully trained, it just means he knows how to act around people. Depending on the age of you adopted Golden, chances are he’s already housebroken! And you also get beneficial background information on adoption dogs since they have lived for either a short or long time with a foster family. With that family they will have probably been around other dogs, other pets such as cats and possibly even children.

A rescue also keeps their dogs up to date on all of their veterinary care. Sometimes Goldens are surrendered because of their known health problems such as skin allergies and hip dysplasia. When adopting a dog from a rescue, you will be informed of any known health issues upfront so you will be able to make an informed decision on whether or not you can care for the dog the way it needs to be cared for.

Rescues also work very hard to match up their dogs with the right owners. Since they have or their foster families spend quite a bit of time with each rescued Golden, they learn a lot about each dog. Whether your match is an energetic pup or a mellow older fellow, everyone knows Goldens are known for their bonding skills, and rescue dogs have the tendency to form very strong bonds. It’s a shame that such a loving dog would be abandoned in the first place, but it will be to your advantage that all he wants is someone to love him as much as he will love you.
